Southern Gods T-Shirts

found it ramblin' john hastur.png

Back when Southern Gods was released - 10 years ago this August 11th! - I thought it would be fun to create a t-shirt for Ramblin’ John Hastur’s show at Ruby’s. That fateful night. Anyway, so I did and I put it on Cafe Press and maybe sold five or six tees. Someone tagged me in an Instagram post - thanks Dana! - and reminded me that design exists. I rummaged around in my digital garage - three or four external hard-drives - and found the original vector art.

RAMBLIN’ JOHN HASTUR LIVE AT RUBY’S ON THE BAYOU t-shirts are once more available. If you’d like an obscure reference to an event in an obscure (though… ahem… well regarded) novel, you can buy them at the following links.

Festa Verlag Publication of Southern Gods

southerngods_buchblock.png

At the end of May, European publisher Festa Verlag releases Southern Gods in German. They came up with a tentacular new cover (which in many ways I like more than the old one - long story but… Bleeding Cowboy, ugh). I have no idea about the translator and other than signing papers, they’ve asked me no questions, so, it could be amazing. I will never know because I have had one year of German that was in seventh grade and I can’t remember much. I do remember how to order a beer in German from the summer I spent studying in Innsbruck, Austria.

If you are a reader of German and want a copy of Southern Gods in that dulcet language, you can purchase one here. But hurry! They are 90% sold out. It is a limited run.

Anywho, down with the Hapsburgs! Remember the Springtime of the Peoples!

Errant Thoughts, Nov. 23, 2020

It’s Monday. Again. I’ve had two days of eating more than a single meal a day (including a Swerve cake which is… well, when you don’t eat any real carbs or sugar, it’s [chef’s kiss]) and staying up too late. This weekend it was raining, so I didn’t exercise much. Normally I walk 3-4 miles a day. And M-W-F I do some weight lifting - a dumb bell routine.

I can’t say I’m glad to be back at work (still working from home) but I am glad the sun is shining and I’ll be back to the the straight and narrow.

And to think I used to be a smoker and drinker.

#

Also, for some dumbass reason, I usually don’t drink coffee on weekends. Feel free to ask me why and I’ll bullshit you an answer. But I just had the first cup in two days and meine Gott in Himmel, coffee is good.

All water runs to the sea. All book review averages run to 3.7 stars.

At least my books. So, I guess I’m a B student.

Our cats are fookin’ crazy. That is all.

Watched Slither on Friday Night and Grabbers on Saturday night with the boy and we both agreed that Grabbers, in the end, was the better movie. They are, in many ways, very similar in plot and construction. Both begin with a meteor. Both involve an alien lifeform. Both have great dialogue.

We watched Nightbreed earlier in the week (I realize people love that movie and it does have some high points) but it really is a mess.

The pandemic is a terrible thing. If there’s one personal good thing I’ve taken from it is that at least I don’t have to have Thanksgiving with certain parties this year. And that is deriving a blessing from a curse.

No one finds my humor amusing at work.

The last episode of The Mandalorian was directed by Carl Weathers. I don’t know why, but that makes me so happy, honestly. Weathers looks great, his acting is really very good, and for a guy that got his start in a movie glistening with sweat opposite Sylvester Stallone and who is now directing episodes of the current most popular television show for the current largest intellectual property in the world… well, goddamn. Good on you, Carl. Good on you.

Film agent is excited about a script I wrote with my writing partner. That’s fun and exciting.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: normally when I write for publishing, there’s a strong chance it will see print. It’s weird doing anything for film and television because the odds are reversed. Most likely, what I write for the screen, big or small, will most likely not reach it. Thems the odds and thems the breaks.

The only thing that has ever really reached the screen that I’ve written (other than commericals) I didn’t actually realize I was writing for television and did not get compensated for … cough cough Constantine cough …. that ripped off Southern Gods. That’s a long story but it involves a D list actor from Battlestar Galactica I hung out and partied with at a convention and Constantine’s showrunner. I don’t know the showrunner but the BSG fella… well that guy has some karma awaiting him.
